چکیده مقاله:
Abstract Background and aims: Chloroform, diethyl ether and ammonia are toxic solvents wildly used in forensic labs for preparation and extraction of samples. The staffs of forensic labs experience high levels of exposure to these solvents. Serious health effects have been reported due to exposure to these solvents including hepatotoxicity, neurotoxicity, carcinogenicity and mutagenicity. Materials and Methods: This Cross-sectional study was performed in the august, 2017 in forensic lab of Boshehr-Iran. Air sampling was conducted using a SKC personal sampling pump and sorbent tubes. Chloroform and ethyl ether concentrations were determined by GC-FID and ammonia concentration determined by spectrophotometry (660 nm) according to their recommended analytical by NIOSH. Time-Weighted Averages (TWA) of exposures were calculated according to recommended formula by ACGIH. Results: TWA of exposure to chloroform, ethyl ether and ammonia in routine days was 0.021, 0.007 and 0.17ppm respectively. TWA of exposure to chloroform, ethyl ether and ammonia in extraction days was 7.02, 32.25 and 3.63 ppm respectively. TWA of all solvents in extraction days was significantly higher than routine days. Conclusion: Although TWA of exposure to all solvents are below the recommended levels by Iran ministry of health but the concentrations of these solvent (particularly chloroform) were in waning range. Increase of extraction days could lead to significant increase of TWA for these solvents

Accident and suicide are the two main epidemiological categories of poisoning; at home and at work are the two main places for it to occur; and clinically it may conveniently be classed as acute or chronic. متن کاملToxic jaundice from occupational exposure to chloroform.
Two outbreaks involving 31 persons with jaundice are described. All had originally been diagnosed as having viral hepatitis. But subsequent muestigations showed that all had been exposed to chloroform at work. Toxic jaundice from chemical exposure presents a similar clinical picture to that of viral hepatitis, but fever appears to be uncommon. Doctors who look after workers should be familiar w...
